What to see
In the close surroundings of Hotel Jalta there are several tourist attractions worth seeing. The best known of them is the biggest water reservoir in Slovakia – Zemplínska Sirava. Other well known places include Morské oko (The Eye of the sea), castles Brekov and Vinne, National Park – Fishponds of Senne village or the Zemplin museum.
Zemplinska sirava
Zemplínska Šírava is the biggest water reservoir in Slovakia with the total area of 33 km2 and the average water depth of 9.5 m. During the hot summer days it is a popular destination for the tourists from Slovakia and abroad. On the banks of Zemplinska Sirava there are several recreational resorts offering a good quality service, swimming pools and various attractions for children.
Morske oko
Morské oko (The Eye of the sea) is a natural lake located in the oak forests of Vihorlat. It covers the area of 13.8 ha. It is 618 meters above the sea level and its maximum depth reaches 25 m. It was created as a result of volcanic activity which caused huge soil erosion of the hills Motrogon and Jedlinka. This is an ideal place for relaxation and walking. Castle Vinne
Nowadays the ruins of the castle are located on the southern slopes of the Vihorlat Mountains not far from Vinné village. The castle was built in the 13th century and served mainly as an observation place. Its history is connected with the Sztaray family. Once you reach the top you can admire the beautiful scenery beneath.
National Park – Fishponds of Senne village
In the village of Senne you can find a group of commercially used fishponds as well as the national park – Fishponds of Senné. A large number of different bird species lives there – 145 in total, out of which 53 species are endangered all over Europe and 5 species are endangered all over the world.
Zemplin museum
The Zemplín museum records the cultural, historical and industrial development of Zemplin region. The collections and exhibitions are located in the baroque-classicistic castle, which is also a part of cultural heritage.
